Still playing hockey at age age 41, Jaromir Jagr reached two milestones with his OT winner Thursday night.
Jaromir Jagr wasn't on the Devils (but was still in his 40's) when New Jersey lost to the Kings in the 2012 Stanley Cup Finals. Thursday night, Jagr helped the Devils to exact some revenge over Los Angeles in their first trip back to the Staples Center since the 2012 Final, and did so with class.
Jagr scored the game-winner in overtime, his 121st career game-deciding goal, tying him for first all-time with Gordie Howe.
The goal was also the 690th of Jagr's NHL career, which began all the way back in 1990. The NHL's token old man who just won't go away is now tied for ninth all-time in career goals with Mario Lemieux. Next on the list to catch for Jagr is Steve Yzerman, who sits two goals ahead of him, and then Mark Messier, who outpaces Jagr by four tallies.
The Devils match up with Yzerman's Lightning on Dec. 12, and while they have 11 games between now and then, it could potentially set up for a cool moment between two all-time greats.
Jagr, who seemingly has some sort of hockey-related addiction, and is a treasure-trove of fantastic quotes, looks like he'll continue to climb the ladder of the NHL pantheon, as long as he can still lace them up.
